CALGARY FALCONS
SPORTS DESIGN / LOGO DESIGN / VECTOR GRAPHICS / CLIENT WORK (2013)
Designed a logo for a friend’s beer league hockey team in Calgary. The team was called the Falcons so I came up with a logo consisting of a falcon in the shape of a letter “F”. The logo was printed on the team’s jerseys and used in their games. Really fun project. Designed with hand sketching and Adobe Illustrator.
DESIGN PROCESS
The client didn’t have any specific ideas for the logo. They gave me the name “Falcons” and the color scheme of orange and blue. So I started as I do with all of my logo projects, by hand-sketched explorations. I like trying to work in letterforms and I quickly realized that you could build a falcon in the shape of an “F” without much trouble.

Alternate concept: tried a more conventional approach, the "animal holding a hockey stick" concept ... I thought this was stupid
THE LOGO IN ACTION
Fortunately I was able to get some great photos of the boys wearing the logo! I didn’t have a hand in the design of the jerseys — the team just picked a template from their jersey provider.
